DroidDB® Business Edition FAQ
D5-a) How can I upgrade from Standard Edition to Business Edition?
Our current policy is that you can upgrade one edition to a higher edition by just paying the difference of the price of the edition you want minus whatever you paid for the edition you have. If you paid $29 for Standard Edition, you can upgrade to Business Edition for just $96 ($125 minus $29). For more details, visit our upgrade information page.
D5-b) How do I distribute my forms?
For the Standard Edition, you distribute the Application Folder.
For the Business Edition, you can use the runtime wizard (FILE | CREATE DISTRIBUTION FILES) to create an installer for your application. After the wizard creates the installer, copy the installer files onto a CD. This is what you distribute to your users. It contains all the redistributable components of DroidDB, including the Synchronizer. Your users will run SETUP.EXE from this disk to install your application. NOTE: Each end-user needs a Runtime license.
D5-c) Why is there an additional charge for runtimes?
Basically, we charge for runtimes to (a) save you money and (b) to be fair to all our customers.
For years, SYWARE has been selling a similar product that works on the Microsoft Windows Mobile platform called Visual CE. Visual CE allows for the unlimited distribution of the runtimes.
We have found that the majority of Visual CE developers build an app or two that are used by about ten people. We could have just added the cost of these 10 runtimes into the DroidDB Business Edition. But what about the organization that only has two or three users? Why should they get charged for ten? What about the organization that has 100 users? Why should everyone else be subsidizing their deployment?
Plus, we charge substantially less for the DroidDB Business Edition than we do for Visual CE. The DroidDB Business Edition plus ten runtime licenses costs US$175. The Visual CE Pro Edition costs US$399.
